Nottingham Forest are ready to make a bold statement in the summer transfer window by launching a club-record bid to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, despite interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in the Premier League. Since his initial loan move from Atlético Madrid in 2023, Cunha has established himself as one of the league’s most exciting attacking talents.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United were all linked with Cunha in January, but he committed his future to Wolves by signing a long-term contract until 2029. However, the deal includes a £62 million release clause, and with growing interest in the forward, Wolves are bracing for his potential departure in the summer.

According to talkSPORT, Nottingham Forest have been monitoring Cunha’s situation and are prepared to make him the club’s most expensive signing ever—should they secure Champions League qualification. The club’s current record signing is Elliott Anderson, who arrived from Newcastle for £35 million last summer.

Forest’s leading scorer, Chris Wood, has netted 18 Premier League goals this season, but the club is keen to add further attacking reinforcements for the next campaign.

Arsenal, long-time admirers of Cunha, reportedly considered a January move following Gabriel Jesus’ season-ending injury. However, manager Mikel Arteta is said to have reservations about the forward’s temperament. Cunha has faced disciplinary issues this season, including an additional one-match suspension and a £50,000 fine from the FA following a headbutt incident in Wolves’ FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth.

Earlier in the campaign, the Brazilian was also handed a two-match ban and an £80,000 fine after an altercation with an Ipswich security staff member.

With a release clause in place and Wolves resigned to losing their star man, the battle for Cunha’s signature is set to intensify when the summer transfer window opens.
