Manchester City have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the pursuit of highly-rated Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson, with reports indicating that the Premier League champions have already opened talks over a potential big-money transfer.

Larsson, 20, has attracted significant attention following an impressive season with Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite his young age, he has been a key figure for the Bundesliga side, featuring regularly as they chase a top-four finish and progress in the Europa League, where they are set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals.

The talented midfielder, who has earned eight caps for Sweden, was instrumental in Malmo’s Allsvenskan title triumph in 2023 before making the switch to Germany. Known for his passing range, tenacity, and physical presence, the 6’2″ star has garnered interest from several European heavyweights, including Arsenal, Liverpool, and Spurs. Manchester United are also reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

Arsenal are in need of midfield reinforcement ahead of next season, with Thomas Partey and Jorginho both out of contract and expected to leave the club this summer. Larsson is among the names linked with the Gunners as they seek to bolster their squad.

With Rodri suffering an ACL injury early in the season and Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan both out of contract this summer, City manager Pep Guardiola remains keen on further strengthening his midfield. Reinforcements are a priority as the club plans a squad overhaul following a challenging season.

Frankfurt, however, are in a strong negotiating position, having recently extended Larsson’s contract until 2029. Sporting director Markus Krösche has reportedly placed a minimum valuation of €60 million (£50.1 million) on the youngster, and the club remains under no immediate pressure to sell.

While Manchester City are among the favourites to sign Larsson, Arsenal remain in contention but have prioritised the signing of Spanish star Martin Zubimendi. The Real Sociedad midfielder is expected to arrive at the Emirates this summer despite interest from Real Madrid.
