Arsenal’s Premier League title rivals Manchester City have suffered a huge injury blow which could have long-lasting ramifications for the remainder of the season.
During Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against the Gunners on Sunday, Spanish midfielder Rodri went to the ground after a seemingly innocuous coming together with Thomas Partey.
The Euro 2024 winner was seen writhing in pain as he clutched his knee, and was unable to continue – forcing the Cityzens into using their first substitution in the 21st minute, when City were leading 1-0.

Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola offered an update on Rodri, despite the facts being very vague at the time, he said: “I don’t know yet [how serious it is]. I didn’t ask the doctors. He is strong. He leaves the pitch and his action is he felt something, otherwise he would stay there.”
24 hours later, and various reports from reliable outlets have confirmed that the Manchester City star will be sidelined for a long time because of the injury.
David Ornstein confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that Rodri suffered a serious knee injury and that he will have a long absence, but that an exact timeframe was not yet known as tests continue.

Other outlets, like TNT Sports and ESPN, however, have reported that the 28-year-old has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and that he will miss the remainder of the season due to the injury.
His absence, however long, will come as a huge blow to Manchester City, whose record without the Spaniard is far worse than when he has started for them.
Rodri’s injury came just days after he criticised the increased demands put on players, when he said: I think we’re close to that [players going on strike]. It’s the general opinion of the players [that demands are too high], and if it keeps going this way, we’ll have no other option. […] You can play 40-50 games [per season] at the top level, but not 60-70.”
