Arsenal handed potential huge boost in Premier League title race

Arsenal have been given a glimmer of hope in the Premier League title race, despite trailing league leaders Liverpool by 12 points with just nine matches remaining in the season.

The Gunners secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Chelsea before the international break, getting back to winning ways in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s side will look to build on that momentum when they face Fulham and Everton before a blockbustre UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid.

Although Arsenal’s title chances remain slim, they can only focus on winning their matches and hope that Liverpool drop points. That possibility appears more likely, as Arne Slot’s squad is beginning to feel the strain of key injuries during this international break.

Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was initially ruled out of international duty due to a suspected injury, and now Liverpool have suffered another potential setback with their first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper was forced off late in Brazil’s 2-1 World Cup qualifying win over Colombia after a heavy clash of heads with former Tottenham defender Davinson Sánchez. Brazil team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, confirmed that Alisson sustained a suspected concussion and will now return to Liverpool for further medical assessment.

“Alisson suffered a head injury and was replaced due to a suspected concussion,” Lasmar said. “We will now follow the CBF protocol, and he will undergo the recommended tests. If all the tests are normal, we will proceed with a cognitive test before evaluating the player further. He is normal, without any complaints, and did not report any fainting or memory loss.”

While Alisson will miss Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Argentina, Liverpool will be eager to have him back in time for their Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield on April 2.

With Liverpool sitting 12 points ahead in the title race, Arsenal face an uphill battle to close the gap. However, with key Liverpool players picking up injuries at a crucial stage of the season, Arteta’s side may find themselves back in contention—if they can maintain a perfect run-in.
