Arsenal became the first team in Women’s Super League (WSL) history to score four or more goals in six consecutive home matches, following a commanding victory over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium. The win keeps the Gunners in the title race, cutting the gap to leaders Chelsea to five points.

A crowd of 35,628 watched as Arsenal delivered a masterclass, controlling the game from start to finish. Despite their dominance, it took 28 minutes for the breakthrough, with Caitlin Foord capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot home from close range after Liverpool failed to clear a corner.

Just 90 seconds later, Arsenal doubled their advantage when Alessia Russo played in captain Kim Little, whose pullback was inadvertently turned into the net by Liverpool’s Jasmine Matthews.

The relentless pressure continued, and Mariona Caldentey added a third in the 44th minute with a superb curling strike into the far corner. Substitute Beth Mead made an immediate impact after the break, delivering a cross that forced Matthews into another own goal.

Arsenal’s record-breaking streak saw them score at least four goals in six straight home matches, previously defeating Brighton (5-0), Aston Villa (4-0), Crystal Palace (5-0), Tottenham (5-0), and West Ham (4-3).

Frida Maanum struck the post twice, Leah Williamson had an effort tipped over, and Russo was unlucky with a deflected shot that went just wide.

With Chelsea chasing a sixth consecutive WSL title, Arsenal will be hoping for a slip-up from the Blues, who face a tricky test against Manchester City on Sunday.

Speaking on her team’s title hopes, Arsenal manager Renee Slegers remained optimistic: “We need to push. We can do whatever we can do. If their [Chelsea’s] position slips, we want to be ready, we want to be there.”
