Arsenal have reportedly initiated discussions with the representatives of Bayern Munich forward as they prepare for an active summer transfer window. The North London club is looking to strengthen its squad, with the official appointment of Andrea Berta as the new sporting director marking the beginning of a busy period.
The Gunners currently find themselves trailing Premier League leaders Liverpool by 12 points, with their title hopes fading. However, Mikel Arteta remains focused on the remainder of the campaign, particularly Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final clash against defending champions Real Madrid.
Despite injuries to key players, Arsenal opted not to make any signings during the January transfer window, a move attributed to a lack of leadership at the executive level following the departure of Edu Gaspar in November. The club has since been in search of an experienced sporting director, and Berta’s arrival is expected to provide much-needed direction.

Arsenal have been linked with several attacking reinforcements, with Leroy Sane emerging as a primary target. The German international has been in impressive form this season, but doubts remain within Bayern Munich over extending his contract beyond the summer of 2025.
Sane, along with Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, is reportedly on Arsenal’s shortlist as they seek to bolster their attacking options. Arteta, who worked with Sane during his time at Manchester City, remains a huge admirer of the winger’s abilities.

According to reports from Sky Sports Germany, Arsenal have a concrete interest in Sane and are monitoring his contract situation closely. The club is exploring the possibility of signing him on a free transfer if Bayern fails to offer him a new deal.
Sane’s recent performances have strengthened his case for a contract extension, with the 29-year-old contributing five goal involvements in his last five Bundesliga appearances. Speaking after his brace in Bayern’s 3-2 win over FC St. Pauli, Sane remained non-committal about his future.

“For me, it’s really just about winning the game. I’m trying to deliver my best and focus on that. I’ve said several times that this is what interests me. In the end, I think we’ll all come together and find a solution.”
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl is continuing discussions with Sane’s camp, but as of now, the club has not submitted a formal contract offer. Reports suggest that Sane is willing to accept a pay cut from his current €20 million per season salary to remain at the club, but the final decision rests with Bayern.
Since joining Bayern Munich from Manchester City for €49 million in 2020, Sane has made 211 appearances, scoring 59 goals and providing 50 assists. His talent has long been recognised, with former City boss Pep Guardiola once hailing him as “the best winger in the world.”
“Playing in the middle he can do it, but I think he’s better out wide. I’m not saying he can’t play in the middle, but at the moment we have better players to do that job. But Leroy is the best wide player in the world. I’d prefer to use him where he is strongest—he’s an incredible player,” Guardiola said in 2019.
