Arsenal are preparing for a crucial summer transfer window amid reports that Andrea Berta could officially take over as the club’s new sporting director in the coming days, following Edu Gaspar’s departure in November 2024.
The Gunners were widely expected to reinforce their attack in January, but their failure to do so has significantly hurt their Premier League title ambitions. Mikel Arteta’s side now sits 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool, having won just two of their last five league matches.
Injuries to key attacking players—including Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli—have further derailed Arsenal’s campaign at a crucial stage. The club made efforts to sign a striker in January but failed to secure a deal.
Beyond incoming transfers, Arsenal must also address the futures of several players seeking regular first-team opportunities, with Polish defender Jakub Kiwior among those reconsidering their options.

Kiwior, who joined Arsenal from Serie A side Spezia in January 2023 for £20 million, has struggled to cement a place in Arteta’s preferred starting lineup. The 24-year-old has made just 55 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners, primarily serving as a backup to William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães in central defence while also covering at full-back.

Kiwior did feature in three consecutive games in December while Gabriel recovered from a knee injury, but the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly as a left-back option has further limited his opportunities.
According to reports from X user Hand of Ozil, Kiwior is reassessing his future at Arsenal ahead of the summer, with interest from several European clubs.

“Jakub Kiwior is reassessing his future at Arsenal this summer, with the Polish defender searching for more game time. There were Premier League and European inquiries last summer, but Arsenal are willing to let Kiwior leave if a reasonable fee is presented.”

Both Napoli and Atalanta reportedly made offers for Kiwior during the January transfer window. Napoli submitted a £12.5 million bid, but it fell short of Arsenal’s valuation, which was closer to £20 million. The Serie A club did not return with an improved offer, while Arsenal were also reluctant to part with the defender due to ongoing injury concerns within the squad.
However, the situation could change in the summer, with Arsenal expected to be more open to Kiwior’s departure—provided their asking price is met.
