Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on recent speculation linking Arsenal with a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães.

With Jorginho and Thomas Partey nearing the latter stages of their careers, the Gunners are expected to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season. Martin Zubimendi remains a priority target for Arsenal, but other names, including Guimarães, have also been mentioned as potential reinforcements.

The Brazilian playmaker has been one of Newcastle’s standout performers and is attracting interest from several top European clubs. Alongside Arsenal, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring his situation. However, Romano has downplayed any concrete negotiations involving the Gunners at this stage.

Writing in his Caught Offside column, Romano clarified Arsenal’s stance on Bruno Guimarães: “We are seeing many reports about Arsenal and other clubs being interested in Bruno Guimarães. Despite these stories, I’m not aware of any concrete negotiations or contact between Arsenal and Guimarães.”

He further explained that while Guimarães was previously on Arsenal’s radar under former sporting director Edu Gaspar, there has been no formal approach, particularly since Andrea Berta took over the role.

“He was a player on the list when Edu Gaspar was in charge, as they are both Brazilian and had a connection, but Arsenal never made a proposal for Guimarães. Now with a new director, there is no direct contact for him at the moment.”

Newcastle are keen to retain their key players, especially as they aim for Champions League qualification. Romano acknowledged that while Guimarães is on the radar of several clubs, Newcastle would demand a significant fee for his departure.

“Newcastle want to keep their top players. Sandro Tonali is attracting interest from Italy, but Newcastle will ask for big money. Guimarães is on the list of several clubs, but Newcastle would only let him go for a very high price. Alexander Isak is also expected to attract major bids. However, for now, I’m not aware of any concrete negotiations for Guimarães, and his future remains open.”

With the summer transfer window approaching, Arsenal’s midfield plans remain fluid, and while Bruno Guimarães remains a coveted name, there is currently no indication that a move to the Emirates is imminent.
