Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has committed his future to the German champions by signing a four-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2029. The 30-year-old’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current season, fuelling speculation about a potential move to Arsenal.
The Gunners were reportedly eyeing a move for Kimmich, who was set to leave on a free transfer in the summer and had also been linked with Barcelona.

Kimmich, who joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2015, has been a key figure for the Bavarians, amassing 429 appearances, scoring 43 goals, and providing 115 assists. Despite reported interest from Arsenal, the German international has opted to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena, citing Bayern’s conducive environment for achieving his career ambitions.

“At FC Bayern, I have the best environment to achieve my sporting goals. That is what my decision was based on,” Kimmich stated. “For me, at the moment, there is no better package of teammates, coaching staff, and club environment to achieve maximum success. I feel at home here, and I am not finished yet.”

As Germany’s captain with 97 international caps, Kimmich boasts an illustrious career, having won eight Bundesliga titles and a Champions League trophy with Bayern. He has been an ever-present figure under manager Vincent Kompany this season, playing every Bundesliga minute until sustaining a minor thigh injury in February.
Kimmich’s contract extension follows a series of renewals at Bayern, with key players such as Manuel Neuer, Jamal Musiala, and Alphonso Davies also committing their futures to the club. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s interest in Bayern players remains strong, as the Gunners have also been linked with winger Leroy Sane, whose contract expires this summer.
